A fine leisure choice
What would Americans do without California? The state was the birthplace of the Frisbee, Barbie Dolls, and canned tuna, among others. California Firsts: The Famous, Infamous, and Quirky of the Golden State charts the odd and fun innovations and innovators of the state, blending black and white vintage photos with a lively coverage of the state's achievements. A fine leisure choice.

California in the Year 2000: A Look into the Future of the Golden State As It Approaches the Millennium
Published in Hardcover by Pacific Book Pub (October, 1992)
Author: Charles F. Adams
Average review score:

The Golden State isn't so golden....
I was living in Monterey, California when I first picked up this book. Monterey is one of the more beautiful and 'unaffected' areas of California, but no part of this state is fully immune to the problems listed in this book. Among them: crime, high taxes, over-population, illegal aliens, earthquakes, and the ever-pressing problem of the lack of water. While California is still a wonderful place to visit, I was already thinking that I no longer wanted to live there. The book was greatly influential in my final decision to move - back East.

My kids beg for these workbooks!
My oldest daughter completed 2,3,and 4 and was terribly disappointed that it ended there. She is not a child who is crazy about school so to find educational material she begged for was exciting. My middle daughter did 2 last year and asked the first day school was out this summer, "Can I do Camp Step Ahead again?" I am now attemping to get a set of these to store back for my youngest child. Every day has a subject theme, such as math, social studies, language arts, reading, etc. You have a word of the day, FUN quick activity, an extra "eager beaver activity", and then a joke of the day to finish off. It has stickers to use and a ton of extra fun family activities listed in the back of the book. It also includes a list of age appropriate recommended books for reading that are divided into interest groups(fiction, non-fiction) There is also a pull out activity poster. These books are fantastic, one your kid will actually use!

Campaign Manager: Running & Winning Local Elections
Published in Paperback by Oak Street Press (June, 1996)
Authors: Catherine M. Golden, Michael E. Holstein, and Matthew Farmer
Average review score:

Easy to read & understand, especially for first-timers
Friends and family actually think I've campaigned before, when all I've done is study Ms. Golden's book! This book has been a fantastic resource for me, who, even with two co-managers (fellow rookies) helping out with my first campaign, is taking on alot of the management tasks. You'll have a lot of details to attend to during your campaign; this book has tables and end-of-chapter summaries to help you avoid dumb mistakes and keep your campaign machinery humming.

If time is short and an organized campaign is essential, then so is this book.

This the best book yet for down to earth answers.
Up to this point, no one has anwsered the questions that this book has. It's the greatest. Better than the doctors by far. Easy to read and gives confidence to the caregiver. I'm am so grateful someone has finally put into words all of the side effects of this disease.

Casino Games
Published in Paperback by Golden Books Pub Co (Adult) (March, 1996)
Authors: Bill Friedman and Golden Books
Average review score:

Ne plus ultra--all that's needed to understand casino games.
In the 160 pages of Casino Games Bill Friedman presents all one needs to know to master the usual casino table games. The blackjack section presents the best playing strategy short of card counting. Craps is graphically explained in the clearest fashion--the rationale for and the method of "taking the odds" are presented in crystal-clear language and illustration.

Many books discuss in an amusing way gambling lore. Some present the most fundamental facts of table games in hyperbolic language. Friedman's Casino Games is all that one can know, and all one ever needs to know. Classic!
